This journey encompasses the many stunning highlights of the world‑famous Gobi Desert, along with the lush green landscapes of Central and Northern Mongolia. Driving south from Ulaanbaatar, you will pass through the Middle and Southern regions of the Gobi Desert, allowing you to fully experience the vastness and raw beauty of this remarkable landscape. Among the rolling sand dunes and rocky hills, activities include riding two‑humped Bactrian camels, visiting a nomadic family, and enjoying the spectacular sunrises and sunsets unique to the desert environment. The tour includes a visit to Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park, renowned for its iconic sand dunes, ice canyon, Flaming Cliffs and limestone formations.
After exploring the Gobi Desert, the journey continues north to Central Mongolia, a region celebrated for its fertile grasslands, rivers, and rich cultural heritage. Highlights include the ancient capital Khar Khorin and the historic Erdene Zuu Monastery, Mongolia’s oldest Buddhist monastery. Natural attractions in Central Mongolia include the relaxing Tsenkher Hot Springs, where you can soak in mineral‑rich waters surrounded by forested hills, as well as Terhiin Tsagaan Nuur (Great White Lake), a pristine freshwater lake formed by ancient volcanic activity. Nearby, Khorgo Volcano offers scenic hiking opportunities across lava fields and extinct craters, providing insight into Mongolia’s dramatic geological history.
Northern Mongolia is an ideal destination for travelers who enjoy outdoor activities, unspoiled nature, and wildlife. The region is home to Lake Khuvsgul, which contains approximately 65 percent of Mongolia’s freshwater and is often referred to as the “Blue Pearl of Mongolia.” The lake is perfect for boating, fishing, and leisurely walks along its scenic shoreline. The surrounding mountains and forests support diverse wildlife and offer excellent opportunities for nature exploration. The journey through Northern Mongolia also follows parts of the Selenge River, Mongolia’s largest river system, which plays a vital role in the region’s ecology and history. A cultural highlight of this region is Amarbayasgalant Monastery, one of Mongolia’s most important and beautifully preserved Buddhist monasteries, set against a peaceful valley backdrop. Northern Mongolia is also home to the famous Tsaatan reindeer herders, an ancient ethnic group whose traditional way of life has remained largely unchanged for centuries.
While exploring the countryside of Mongolia, we prefer to stay with local nomadic family ger camps. Gers are traditional Mongolian felt tents and are usually shared by 3–5 people from your group only. You will not share the ger with other travelers, hosts, guides, or drivers.
As a Mongolian company, we aim to support local families and their livelihoods, while giving travelers the chance to experience the authentic culture and daily life of herders on the steppe.
Some camps have basic Western-style facilities, so there will be a few nights with showers available during this tour. However, please note that travel in rural Mongolia can be remote and sometimes bumpy, as many roads are unpaved and Western-style comforts may not always be available.
For those who prefer more comfort, tourist ger camps with hot showers and Western-style facilities are available in some areas. These upgraded accommodations are not included in the current price, but we can adjust the itinerary and quotation if preferred.
Tour departure times can be flexible, however, 7 am on the morning of departure is recommended. The driver and guide can pick you up from the airport, train station, or your accommodation to suit your requirements.
Most of the meals on this tour are included in the tour price. All included meals will be prepared from fresh local produce. The majority of the shopping for food will be done before the trip departs, and fresh goods, such as meats, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products, will be bought en-route during the trip from supermarkets, local shops and markets. Breakfasts will generally consist of breads and cereals, if time allows a warm breakfast may be prepared. Many lunches will be provided en-route and will be light meals such as sandwiches and/or salads or local restaurants. All evening meals will be freshly-prepared hot meals, and will consist of a variety of continental and local dishes. Our GUIDE will organize the meal preparation and lead the way here. Vegetarian/Vegan meals and other dietary requirements can be catered for but need to be specified prior to arrival.
Summer months in Mongolia are from early June to mid September. Although the Mongolian summers are hot and dry with occasional rain, the temperature can fluctuate as much 14-20 degrees centigrade between day and night. So be prepared for all weather conditions.
Sleeping bag (we can provide sleeping bag, if your luggage is full), sleeping bag liner, sunscreen, a hat, long underwear, shorts, comfortable footwear, lip balm, sanitary hand wipes, sunglasses, prescription medications (if needed), rain gear, flashlight.
The tour begins at 7:00 am with a drive to our first destination in Middle Gobi Province. Baga Gazriin Chuluu is a striking range of granite hills rising from the surrounding desert landscape. It is believed that Chinggis Khaan once grazed his horses here, and the area remains deeply respected by local people.
These granite hills offer excellent opportunities for scrambling and hiking, with scenic viewpoints and unique rock formations to explore. On the way to Baga Gazriin Chuluu, we stop for lunch at a local restaurant.
The mountain is venerated and revered by the locals, who believe it is the home of a great and benevolent spirit. On the first night, we stay at a nomadic family’s ger camp, where the family has built a simple shower facility.
Today’s drive will be along a paved road. After an early breakfast, we set off toward Tsagaan Suvarga, a striking natural formation approximately 30 meters high and 100 meters long, shaped over thousands of years by wind and water erosion. From a distance, it can easily be mistaken for the ruins of an ancient city, creating a dramatic and surreal landscape.
Lunch will be enjoyed in Mandalgovi, the capital of Dundgovi Province, at a local restaurant. In the evening, we continue to our accommodation and stay overnight at a nomadic family’s ger camp. The family has also built a shower facility for guests.
Today we enter the South Gobi Desert in Ömnögovi Province. After breakfast, we begin our drive toward Dalanzadgad, the provincial capital, where the tour guide will restock supplies with fresh food. Lunch will be enjoyed at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we continue to Yoliin Am (meaning “Vulture’s Mouth”), a deep and narrow gorge located within Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park in southern Mongolia. Yoliin Am is famous for its permanent ice field, which can reach several meters in thickness by the end of winter and stretch for several kilometers. In some years, the ice remains frozen throughout the summer, creating a striking contrast to the surrounding desert landscape.
Overnight accommodation is at a nomadic family’s ger camp located in the valley, offering an authentic experience in this unique natural setting.
Driving on this day can be adventurous, as much of the route is unpaved. After breakfast, we begin our journey at 8:00 am, traveling through the dramatic landscapes of the South Gobi.
We enjoy a picnic lunch in a beautiful canyon before continuing on to the final destination of the day, Khongoryn Els. These spectacular sand dunes are the largest accumulation of sand within Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park. The towering dunes are bordered by lush green vegetation nourished by the Khongoryn Gol River, which is fed by underground water sources from the surrounding mountains, creating a striking contrast between desert and greenery. Overnight accommodation is at a local family‑run ger camp, which includes a shower facility, offering comfort alongside an authentic nomadic experience.
Take the opportunity to relax and fully appreciate the surrounding landscape. You will spend the day enjoying a variety of activities, including one hour of camel riding, hiking on the sand dunes, sand sliding, or spending time with a local nomadic family to learn about their traditional way of life.
There will also be an opportunity to enjoy a cold drink at the small bar/restaurant run by the local family. Please note that drinks and alcoholic beverages are not included in the tour price.
Today’s destination is the aptly named Flaming Cliffs. The adventure across the vast desert landscape continues, this time over what was once a prehistoric seabed. The Flaming Cliffs are a dream destination for fossil enthusiasts and are internationally famous as the site where the first dinosaur fossils were discovered in 1920 by American adventurer Roy Chapman Andrews, who gave the cliffs their name.
Lunch will be at a local café in Bulgan soum. The surrounding Bayanzag area is ideal for hiking, with striking red sandstone formations and open desert scenery. Overnight accommodation is at a family‑run ger camp.
This area is a small mountainous region located along the Ongi River. A bend in the river marks the remains of two ruined monasteries, together known as Ongiin Khiid (Ongi Monastery). Once one of the largest monasteries in Mongolia, Ongi Monastery was founded in 1660 and originally consisted of two major temple complexes situated on the north and south banks of the Ongi Gol River.
The older southern complex included various administrative buildings and 11 temples, while the northern complex, constructed in the 18th century, consisted of 17 temples, including one of the largest temples in Mongolia at the time. Although much of the monastery was destroyed in the 1930s, the atmospheric ruins and surrounding landscape offer a fascinating glimpse into Mongolia’s religious history.
Overnight accommodation is at a local family‑run ger camp, with a shower available for guests
After breakfast, we drive to Khar Khorin, a historic town that was once the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire, founded by Chinggis Khan in the 13th century. Here, we visit the magnificent Erdene Zuu Monastery, the Khar Khorin Museum, and several important stone monuments around the town.
After a full day of exploration and immersion in Mongolia’s rich history, we enjoy dinner at a local family run ger camp, where shower and western toilet facilities are available. The evening concludes with a traditional cultural performance by local artists, providing a memorable end to the day.
Accommodation – Family run Ger camp – Shower available with western style bathroom
Be prepared for a refreshing swim at the waterfalls. The river here is known locally as “Red Flows”, reflecting the rich volcanic history of the area. The surrounding landscape was shaped by volcanic activity approximately 20,000 years ago, creating dramatic formations and fertile valleys.
This area is ideal for trekking, fishing, relaxing, and for photography lovers, it offers outstanding opportunities—especially when weather conditions are favourable. Surrounded by natural beauty and open space, it is a perfect place to slow down and enjoy the scenery.
We begin driving toward Arkhangai Province to reach the famous Tsenkher Hot Springs, one of Mongolia’s most popular natural thermal areas. The springs feature a mix of indoor and outdoor bathing pools, with men and women using separate facilities. Entrance to the hot spring grounds is included, while optional services such as spa treatments and massage are available at an additional cost and are not included in the tour price.
On the way to the hot springs, visit Tuvkhun Monastery. In 1653, believers who gathered in Erdene Zuu Monastery decided to build a special Monastery for Zanabazar. Following this decision, the Monastery Tuvkhun was built at Shireet Ulaan, the most beautiful scenery in the Khangai Mountains. This monastery is located in densely forested and picturesque mountains at an elevation of 2000m above sea level. Please note that heavy rains can make the Tuvkhun Monastery inaccessible, in which case our travel plans may need to change.
Upon arriving at the base of the mountain, we begin a 2 kilometre uphill hike to the monastery, followed by a 2 kilometre trek back down. For those who prefer not to hike, there is an option to hire a local horse. Horse riding takes approximately two hours up and two hours back and is available for an additional cost, payable directly to the local herders. After returning to the vehicle, we enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by the peaceful natural setting.
During the rainy season, access to Tsenkher may be limited if the river becomes too high to cross. In such cases, the day will be adjusted to the conditions, and you may instead spend a relaxing day at the hotel in Tsetserleg, ensuring comfort and flexibility regardless of weather.
The day begins with a drive to Tsetserleg town, where the guide will purchase fresh food supplies for the upcoming days. We visit the Arkhangai Museum before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we continue to Terhiin Tsagaan Nuur, a beautiful volcanic lake surrounded by dramatic rocky mountains. Along the way, we visit the Chuluut River and Khorgo Volcano, both offering striking landscapes and excellent opportunities to explore the region’s unique geology. This area is rich in natural highlights, making it ideal for walking, sightseeing, and photography. Overnight accommodation is at a family‑run ger camp.
Today is a relaxing day with no driving required. You are free to wander along the shoreline or hike into the surrounding volcanic mountains for stunning panoramic views. Enjoy a peaceful day at your own pace, taking in the natural beauty of the area.
Today involves a long day of driving as we travel north to Murun, the capital of Khuvsgul Province. The journey offers changing landscapes as we move deeper into northern Mongolia.
Upon arrival in Murun, the guide will restock supplies with fresh food for the upcoming days. In the evening, we enjoy dinner at a local restaurant in town.
Overnight accommodation is at a local guesthouse in Murun, which provides shower facilities, offering a comfortable rest after a full day on the road.
After a hearty breakfast provided by the guesthouse, we begin our journey toward Lake Khövsgöl, often referred to as the “Dark Blue Pearl of Mongolia,” set among beautiful mountain landscapes. En route to the lake, we stop to visit a Tsaatan reindeer herder camp, where a Tsaatan family has set up traditional teepee dwellings and keeps reindeer. This visit offers a unique opportunity to learn about their traditional lifestyle and provides direct support for their livelihood.
Continuing onward, we arrive at Lake Khövsgöl, which is fed by 96 rivers and streams, including the Egiin River, which later joins the Selenge River on its journey to Lake Baikal. The lake is approximately 136 km long, 36 km wide, reaches a depth of 262 meters, and lies at an altitude of 1,645 meters above sea level.
The surrounding forests are rich in flora and fauna, and the region lies along an important bird migration route from Siberia, offering excellent opportunities for birdwatching.
Accommodation is at a family‑run ger camp near the lake, where shower facilities are available.
Take the opportunity to relax and fully appreciate the pristine surroundings of Lake Khövsgöl. Today includes a boat ride across the crystal‑clear waters of the lake to a small island in the centre, offering beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and forested shoreline.
In the afternoon you may choose to hike into the nearby mountain range, where panoramic views open out over the lake and the vast taiga landscape. Those who prefer a slower pace are welcome to remain by the lakeshore—enjoying a peaceful walk, relaxing, or spending time on photography. Depending on conditions and personal interest, there may also be opportunities for birdwatching, lakeside exploration, or simply enjoying the fresh mountain air.
This day is designed to be flexible, allowing you to be as active or as relaxed as you wish while soaking in the natural beauty of one of Mongolia’s most spectacular destinations.
Enjoy approximately three hours of horse trekking along the lakeshore and selected scenic trails, offering beautiful views and a relaxed introduction to the surrounding landscape. The remainder of the day is free to rest and enjoy the peaceful lakeside setting at your own pace.
For your safety, please ensure you receive proper horse‑riding guidance from your guide before the ride begins and follow their instructions at all times.
After a hearty breakfast, the journey begins at 9:00 am with a long drive to Khutag‑Öndör soum, where we will stay near the Selenge River. This region is one of the most lush and scenic areas of Mongolia, known for its fertile landscapes and rich natural beauty.
The Selenge River, Mongolia’s largest river system, flows north into Lake Baikal and stretches for approximately 992 kilometres, playing a vital role in the country’s ecology.Overnight accommodation is at a family‑run ger camp.
Begin today’s journey with a drive through Erdenet, Mongolia’s third‑largest city, where we stop for lunch. From there, we continue to Amarbayasgalant Monastery, one of the three largest Buddhist monastic centres in Mongolia.
The monastery was established by order of the Manchu Emperor Enkh‑Amgalan Khan as the final resting place of Zanabazar, Mongolia’s first Bogd and an important spiritual figure. Today, 28 temples remain, set within a picturesque valley beneath the mountain range north of the monastery. The combination of historic architecture and stunning natural surroundings makes this site a long‑time favourite with travellers.
Overnight accommodation is at a local family ger camp.

We did a 19 day loop with Bunny and Oogi, everything went wonderfully.
We were with 2 children aged 9 and 12, everything was done so that we could make the most of it while paying attention to our expectations.
Oogi is an outstanding driver and very kind! Bunny took very good care of us, with very good English, introduced us to many aspects of Mongolian culture. She was able to adapt the program in order to optimize our days and good times, as well as to prepare good meals and picnics for us in all situations!!
A big thank you to Bunny, Oogi and Meg who made it possible for the whole family to have a memorable experience of Mongolia!!
Wonderful tour and guesthouse stay. Meg’s is everything you could wish for: very friendly, very efficient from the very first booking stage, delightful welcome for jet-lagged arrivals, a wonderful 19-day tour with (good) surprises every day, with a caring and considerate guide and the best driver you could hope for.
“By the way guys…” amazing adventure!!!
Me and my friend Chiara went on a 19 Days tour with Meg’s Guesthouse and it was absolutely amazing. We were 12, 8 tourists, 2 guides (Bujin and Masaki) and the two drivers (Ogi and Zorigoo). It has been a real adventure around beautiful Mongolia, the company was excellent, the drivers were absolutely amazing and with a great sense of humor and the guides were always helpful and caring and they managed to satisfy all our needs (from food preferences to personal requests). We enjoyed all the destinations of the tour and we really appreciated the way the tour was structured, also we were supposed to leave two days earlier but thanks to our guides we managed to finish the tour with everyone else. We will for sure come back to see more of this beautiful country and to embrace new adventures.
